Finally, Government Withdraws Controversial Guthi Bill

Kathmandu, Nepal, June 18, 2019: Following the widespread protests and criticism, the government has decided to withdraw the controversial Guthi Bill.

Organizing a press conference organized at the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Minister Padma Kumari Aryal said that the government has decided to withdraw the bill.

However, the government has not admitted to the flaws in the bill but blamed for not understanding the so-called motive of the government. 

As people misread government’s intentions and got mislead, the Bill is withdrawn for now, reads the statement issued by the ministry on Tuesday.

As government has not admitted the flaws of the Bill but alleged the people for misleading, it is likely that the government would bring again the bill sans correction. 

Following the registration of the controversial Bill, pressures were mounted against of the government from all quarters demanding withdrawal of the bill. 

The ethnic Newar community has vented their outrage for attempting to destroy the century long tradition of Guthi through the Bill.
