Assam’s high profile rape incident, police arrested victim’s husband from Guwahati airport

Guwahati : Assam police has arrested the husband of the rape victim woman from Guwahati airport last night as a MLA of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has been accused of raping a married woman in Assam’s Hailakandi district.

The victim woman has lodged an FIR against the accused MLA of Algapur assembly constituency Nizam Uddin Choudhury at Hailakandi Sadar police station that she was allegedly raped by the AIUDF MLA at Hailandi Circuit House.

The victim woman also filed complaint against her husband.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input Hailakandi district police and Azara police of Guwahati had jointly launched operation in Guwahati airport last night and caught the man identified as Shahid Ahmed
Laskar, husband of the rape victim woman, who tried to flee from Guwahati to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Hailakandi police has taken him in their custody.

Officer-in-Charge of Azara police station Ashok Kumar Dutta said that, we had arrested a person named Shahid from Guwahati airport in connection with a case of Hailakandi police station and later he was handed over to Hailakandi police.

The victim woman said that, her husband took her to Hailakandi Circuit House on May 19 last where the AIUDF MLA raped her.

The victim woman said that, her husband too was involved in the crime.

The woman had lodged the FIR on Friday at Hailakandi Sadar police station against the AIUDF MLA and her husband and police has already registered a case (no – 529/2018) in connection with the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Hailakandi Sadar police station Surajit Choudhury said that, a married woman had lodged an FIR that, she was allegedly raped by the Algapur MLA.

“After receiving the FIR, we have registered a case (no – 529/2018) and investigation is going on,” the police officer said.

The victim woman also alleged that, the accused MLA has offered Rs 5 lakh to withdraw the allegation.

She mentioned in the FIR that, post the raping incident, her husband had locked her in the house.

“I want justice. I will commit suicide if don’t get justice,” the victim woman said.

On the other hand, the accused AIUDF MLA, Nizam Uddin Choudhury has refuted all allegations made against him.

The AIUDF MLA said that, it was a political conspiracy made against him.
