Assistant Director of a SOS village arrested for molesting three minor girls of the village

Guwahati, August 6 : In a shocking incident that, three minor girls of a SOS Children’s Village in Assam have been sexually assaulted by a senior official of the village.

Assam police has arrested a senior official of SOS Children’s Village near Guwahati on charges of molesting three minor girls among the 140 children who live in the village.

According to the reports, the Assistant Director of the village located at Azara area, outskirts of Guwahati set up under the SOS Children’s Villages International in 1988 had allegedly molested three minor girls of the village.

44-year-old Paukha Loon Vaiphei, who hails from Manipur, had allegedly molested the three minor girls when he was in a car with them on July 22.

The victim girls had informed the village authorities against Vaiphei, but no action has been taken.

The entire incident has come to light on August 1, when the victim girls narrated the incident to the members of Rotaract Club, which organised a six-day leadership camp in the village and the Rotaract members had
informed to local journalist.

A child rights organisation UTSAH had lodged an FIR at Azara police station on August 2 and police had registered a case (no – 486/2018) under section 10 of POCSO Act.

Police had arrested the accused Assistant Director of the SOS Children’s Village on August 3.

Ashok Dutta, Officer-in-Charge of Azara police station said that, the Executive Director of UTSAH organisation had lodged an FIR on August 2 and the FIR stated that, the Assistant Director of SOS Children’s Village had sexually assaulted three minor girls of the village.

“We have registered a case following the FIR and arrested the accused person and sent him to jail. Investigation is going on,” Ashok Dutta said,.
