Emfa condemns police Assam police atrocities on TV reporter
  Kathmandu, Nepal      March 13 2018

Guwahati: Electronic Media Forum Assam (Emfa) expresses shock over the police atrocities on some media persons including television reporters in Assam-Meghalaya borders and urged the State authority to look into the mater. The television media forum also asked the reporters to follow the guidelines while reporting from a conflict zone for their own safety.

It may be noted that Emmy C Lawbei, a Mizoram based television reporter of News18 (Assam-North East) along with few other fellow journos faced atrocities reportedly by the Assam police personnel on Saturday as they were covering the border conflict mounted by Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP).

Ms Lawbei alleged that she tried to convince the police personnel on duty about her identity as a  recognized reporter, but it yielded little. She received injuries on her back. She explained in her facebook account, “I screamed and said I'm a journalist but they keep beating us. I felt a sharp pain on my butt, back and my arms.”

The Emfa, while condemning the inhuman attitude of the police personnel, advocated the reporters to ensure safety on such situations. It categorically stated that media persons  must  not accompany the agitators and they should restrain from verbal outbursts with the armed forces on duty.
