Guwahati, Aug 13 : Ahead of Independence Day celebrations security have been beefed up in Assam and other parts of the North Eastern region after various banned outfit groups of the region including United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) called to boycott I-Day celebrations and also imposed a general strike on August 15.
Security of all major railway stations including Guwahati have been beefed up considerably by NF Railway in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
In Guwahati, security personnel have launched search operation in waterways, roadways and railway stations.
The security personnel have searched railway tracks, platform with the help of the sniffer dog so that no untoward incident could take place on or before the Independence Day.
Banned outfit group ULFA-I and other NE rebel outfits boycotted the I-Day celebrations and also imposed a general strike on August 15.
The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a conglomerate of major militant groups of Northeast has appealed the people of the region to boycott the I-Day celebrations and observe the general strike on August 15, which will commence from 1-30 am to 6-30 pm.
