Guwahati, Nov 25 : Tense erupted in Moreh, bordering town along Manipur-Myanmar border, after some Myanmarese army men entered Haulenphai village near Moreh and reportedly asked the villagers to halt construction work of some houses.
According to the reports, the incident was happened on Saturday and the troops of Manipur police and Assam Rifles had immediately rushed to the area under Tengnoupal district.
The Manipur police with district administration officials asked the Myanmarese army men to go back.
Few people including women were injured during a clash with between police and villagers after the Manipur police team asked the villagers of Haulenphai to suspend the construction work.
But, the angry villagers claimed the area is in Indian territory and they will not stop construction work.
“We will continue to construct our houses in our land,” an angry villager said.
Angered by the attitude of Manipur police, Assam Rifles and district administration, the villagers of Haulenphai had blockade road and continue its construction works.
“We are constructing house in our village which is located inside Indian territory. But Myanmarese army enter our village and told us that, the area belongs to Myanmar and asked us to stop the construction. We inform about the incident to Moreh police and Assam Rifles, who are guarding Indo-Myanmar border and supposed to protect, safeguard the Indian boundary.
But the police and Assam Rifles men also asked us to suspend the construction works. We will halt the construction work if the Indian government says it is not in India,” Lalkholun Haokip, Chief of Haulenphai village said.
It is to be mentioned that, there were massive protests in the past over allegations of shifting of some boundary pillars within the Indian territory.
Haulenphai village is located near boundary pillar 76 of Indo-Myanmar border.
Following the allegations, the union government had also sent a team to make spot verifications along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Union MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju earlier said that, there was no boundary pillars dispute.
