President Bidya Devi Bhandari
Kathmandu, Nepal: Finally, the medical education ordinance has come into effect after President Bidya Devi Bhandari authenticated the bill on Friday.
As president Bhandari had been delaying to authenticate the bill, it was suspected that the bill would not be authenticated by the president due to the influence of the main opposition party CPN UML.
Though the President took time to authenticate the bill, finally it has come into effects to systemize the medical education sector in Nepal.
Senior orthopedic doctor Govinda KC had been staging hunger strike demanding improvement in the medical education sector.
But the bill brought at the parliament was not presented due to the obstruction from the main opposition party CPN UML.
The newly authenticated ordinance has incorporated the provisions that the recommendations was made by the Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led Task Force formed earlier to address Dr KC's demands.
As per the provisions, Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University, which had been giving affiliations on their own way, will not be able to issue affiliations to any new medical colleges.
