Kathmandu, Nepal: All the health services except for emergency in all public and private hospitals across the country will be shut down from Thursday to exert pressure to the government to fulfill the demands raised by senior orthopedic doctor Govinda KC.
All medical and health services at public and private hospitals including nursing homes and private clinics will be shut from tomorrow, the National Medical Association (NMA), the umbrella organization of the Nepali doctors, said on Wednesday organizing a press conference on Wednesday.
The NMA has accused the government for being reluctant on addressing all the demands raised by Dr KC. The NMA had already issued a threat that doctors would shut down the medical service if the demands raised by Dr. KC was not addressed immediately.
Dr KC has been staging his fast-unto-death for last 19 days in Jumla district demanding reforms in medical education sector.
Recent hunger strike is the 15th series of hunger strike of Dr. KC demanding fulfillment of the recommendation made by the Mathema-led commission.
Not only the NMA and other medical professional but also the opposition parties and the people in general have also been protesting demanding immediate fulfillment of Dr. KC’s demands, but the government has turned deaf ear to address the issue through the negotiation.
