Former IGP on Nepal Police Thakuri sent to the Dillibazar jail after he surrenders before the Supreme Court

Kathmandu, Nepal July 4, 2019: Former IGP of Nepal Police Ramesh Chand Thakuri has surrendered before the Supreme Court (SC) and promptly sent to him to Dillibazar based jail on Thursday.
 
Though he was convicted guilty by the SC about two years ago on the charge of involving in the corruption in the purchase of logistics for UN peacekeeping force deployed in Darfur, Suda he had been absconding.  
 
A joint bench of the then Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha had handed over Thakuri a year in jail and a fine of Rs 40,000 on April 30, 2017. 
 
In the case, the SC had convicted three former IGPs of Nepal Police including Thakuri, Om Bikram Rana and Hem Bahadur Gurung and several other officials guilty of corruption in the purchase of logistics for UN peacekeeping force deployed in Darfur, Sudan.
