Kathmandu, Nepal: The government has announced to hold the provincial and federal elections on November 26.
A Cabinet meeting held in Singhadarbar on Monday fixed the date of both elections to conduct in single phase.
With the decision, the government has to inform the Election Commission (EC) officially regarding the date for the elections. Though the constitution of Nepal has granted the right to the government to announce the elections, the EC, the constitutional body responsible to hold the elections, has to endorse to make official the decision.
The EC had repeatedly been suggesting the government to hold both the elections on separate day but lately agreed to hold simultaneously.
Likewise, the government has also endorsed the upcoming state visit of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to India. Deuba is leaving for India on August 23 for five day official visit.
Similarly, the meeting has also finalized the agendas of the visit. It is said that Nepal will raise the issue regarding the 1950 treaty signed between the two neighboring countries, railway links, trade, commerce, investment and other issues.
Likewise, the meeting has also decided to raise the issue like losses caused by Laxmanpur and Koshi dams during recent monsoons and the unfulfilled commitment made by India regarding the support to the post-earthquake reconstruction.
