As per the tradition, dogs have accompanied Dharmaraj Yudhisthir on his journey to heaven in the mythological grand epic Mahabharat. Dogs are the animals which have a close relationship with mankind.
During the Kukur Tihar, which is also called as Narak Chaturdashi, people used to take holy dips in rivers and ponds at sunrise on this day in observance of the Narak Chaturdashi.
