Holi is being observed with much more fanfare across the country

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 20: The Fagu Poornima, also popularly known as Holi, is being celebrated with much more fanfare by exchanging of wishes and smearing colorful powders today.

The festival of colors is being observed today in the in hilly region including Katmandu valley. However, the festival is being observed in the Terai region tomorrow. 
People from different walks of life, ages and castes concelebrate Holi having delicious food, music and dance. 
To make special the festival, the government has announced public holiday today. 
The culturally as well as religiously significant Fagu Poornima or Holi commemorates with the death of Holika, the symbol of the triumph of good over evil. Celebration of Holi begins with a Holika dahan.
Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, in separate messages, have extended best wishes to all Nepalese at home and abroad on the occasion of the festival.
