Guwahati : Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi finally bid adieu to his Koinadhara residence and shifted to cabinet minister colony in Guwahati.

After the Supreme Court directive to the ex Chief Ministers to vacate government bungalow, Tarun Gogoi, the former three times Chief Minister of Assam on Friday  move out of the guest house situated a hilltop of
Koinadhara, where he entered in 2001 after became Chief Minister of Assam.

Gogoi now shifted to cabinet minister colony.

Tarun Gogoi had entered into the Koinadhara guest house in last week of the month May, 2001 and staying at that guest house in past 17 years including his 15 years tenure.

The Koinadhara guest house was built in 1976 during the Congress session held in Guwahati attended by Indira Gandhi.

The Koinadhara guest house bears testimony of Gogoi’s success and struggle.

From that guest house, Tarun Gogoi became Chief Minister of Assam as Congress had won two consecutive assembly elections in 2006 and 2011.

But, Congress lost the last assembly poll held in 2016.

On Friday, puja, naam kirtana have been performed in the new bungalow allotted to the former Chief Minister.

After entering in the new bungalow in the cabinet minister colony, Tarun Gogoi said that, that (Koinadhara guest house) was not my permanent residence. It is an official residence.

“I was Chief Minsiter of Assam for 15 years and stayed there and also stayed another two years. This bungalow was allotted to me, but there was no fencing, no boundary wall and no provisions of security, so that I
stayed Koinadhara guest house for two years more. Otherwise I shifted to the allotted bungalow earlier. I staying there for a long time and many memorable moments are attached with it,” Tarun Gogoi said.

Gogoi further said that, the Koinadhara guest house was built in 1976 during the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session held in Guwahati and attended by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
