Guwahati : The flood situation in Assam has been slightly improved as flood situation in Brahmaputra valley receding after water levels of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have been decreased, but situation still grim in three districts of Barak valley.

The death toll in the devastating flood and landslides in the state has risen to 21 as six people drowned in flood waters in Karimganj and Cachar districts.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), four persons died in Karmganj district on Tuesday, while two in Cachar district.

A population 5,64,074 in the districts of Nagaon, Hojai, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi have been affected by the flood.

Karimganj district is the worst hit with Barak and Kushiyara rivers maintained in rising trend and a total of 2,36,164 people affected in the district.

On the other hand, a total of 2,20,658 people are affecting in Hailakandi district and 1,01,859 people in Cachar district.

A total of 1,57,524 people mostly of the Barak valley districts have taken shelter at 236 relief camps set up by the district administration.

The administration has also set up 221 numbers relief distribution centres.

According to the ASDMA reports, 3890.50 hectares crop area had been washed away by the flood waters.

On the other hand, the NDRF and SDRF teams on Tuesday had rescued 9250 persons in Karimganj and Cachar districts.
