Kathmandu, Nepal, September 15, 2020: The controversial business company- Omni Business Corporate International (OBCI)- has been blacklisted for one year. The government has made the decision by issuing a notice on Monday.
The business company was involved in a controversial procurement deal of medical supplies related to the global pandemic of coronavirus (COVID-19). According to the Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO), the company will not be qualified for any public bidding for the next one year.
The PPMO has made the decision at the time when the government has faced widespread criticism for dilly-dallying to keep the controversial company in the blacklist and to investigate the officials involved in the scam.
The company is blacklisted for charging high price than the actual costs of the medical items supplied to the government. The charge labeled against the company has left space to suspect that state fund would have misused while making deal with the company.
Though the procurement deal made with the company had already dragged into controversy, neither the government nor the state agencies like Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had taken initiation for the investigation.
