Nepal sends tariff proposal to Bangladesh

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 11, 2024: Nepal has sent a tariff proposal to neighboring Bangladesh to export 40 MW of electricity.

The tariff proposal sent by Nepal is per unit electricity (each kilowatt hour), which is below Nepalese Rupee 10. One (1) Nepalese rupee is equivalent to Bangladesh Tk 0.83.

Pradeep Kumar Thike, the deputy managing director who oversees power trade at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has confirmed that Nepal has sent a tariff proposal to Bangladesh. Yes, we have recently sent a tariff proposal to the Bangladeshi, he said. 

The rate proposed by Nepal is approximately equivalent to the rate that Nepal has been charging to the India under a five-year power purchase agreement.
