Kathmandu, Nepal: The Council of Ministers has approved two major international grants aimed at local governance and infrastructure, alongside a relief package for displaced riverside settlers and key legislative amendments.
According to the Cabinet, the government will accept a 6.116 million Swiss Franc grant from Switzerland for the "Municipal Revenue Enhancement Project" to boost local government finances. It also approved a 79.36 million RMB grant from China to upgrade the Arniko Highway, a critical trade route.
For the Kathmandu Valley riverside clearance project, the government announced immediate relief for displaced families. Verified households will receive a one-time NPR 25,000 rehabilitation grant. Additionally, a three-month housing allowance will be provided: NPR 15,000 monthly for families up to five members, plus an extra NPR 2,000 per additional member. Vulnerable individuals—including the elderly and disabled—will be relocated to holding centers, and the government has pledged to coordinate with local authorities to prevent disruptions to education and healthcare.
On the administrative and legal front, the Cabinet approved the Accreditation Rules (2026) and the Military Service (Sixth Amendment) Rules (2026). It also authorized the tabling of a bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act (2002) in the Federal Parliament, and finalized the post-adjustments and placements for Gazetted Special Class Secretaries under the Government of Nepal (Allocation of Business) Rules (2026).
