Actor Paul Shah Released After One Year Of His Arrest
  Kathmandu, Nepal      February 28 2023

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 27, 2023: Following the Pokhara High Court’s verdict to acquit him on the charge of sexually abusing a teen age singer, popular Nepali actor Purna Bikram Shah, who is also known as Paul Shah, has been released from Tanahun prison on Monday.

Responding to the writ petition filed by actor Shah himself, a joint bench of Pokhara High Court acting chief judge Dilliraj Acharya and judge Shreedhara Kumari Pudasaini issued the verdict on Sunday citing a lack of evidence to establish the charge labeled against him.

Actor Shah had moved the Pokhara High Court challenging the September 6, 2022 verdict of the Nawalparasi (East) district court. The district court had issued verdict to sentence him for two years and six months and slapped a fine of Rs25, 000 on the charge of molesting a minor. The district court, however, had given a clean chit on the rape charge. Following the verdict, he had been serving time in Tanahun prison.

The 32-year-old actor was taken into custody at the District Police Office in Tanahun on February 27, 2022 after a 17-year-old singer had filed complaints in February, 2022 accusing him of raping her in Tanahun and Nawalparasi (East) districts.
