Kathmandu, Nepal, June 4, 2023: The mandatory provision made by the Nepal government to the foreign tourists visiting in Nepal that they should hire only the licensed trekking guides while trekking in Nepal is believed to help to curb the malpractices in the torus and traveling sector.

The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the government entity responsible to promote and develop the tourism business in the country, has recently made mandatory provision for trekkers to be accompanied by licensed trekking guides.

“Foreign tourists now cannot go as solo travelers and have to be accompanied by a trained trekking guide,” reads a notice recently issued by the NTB. As per the new rule, foreign trekkers now mandatorily require obtaining a Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) card and have to be accompanied by licensed trekking guides through trekking agencies authorized by the government.

The NTB has believed that such a provision would help to curb adverse situation caused natural disasters, accidents and other health issues.
