Guwahati : A postmaster of Assam’s Biswanath district was suspended for allegedly looting several thousands of rupees by using forged passbook.

According to the reports, the postmaster of Milanpur post office branch under Gohpur subdivision along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border had allegedly looted Rs 50,000 of a woman by using fake passbook.

Report said that, a married woman named Bibari Basumutary met the postmaster identified as Hemen Hazarika last year and urged him to help her to fix deposit of an amount Rs 50,000 and handed over the amount in cash.

Hemen Hazarika had given a passbook (no – 9314774837) to the woman.

When the woman went to the post office to know about her fixed deposit amount last month, she knew that, no amount was deposited against her name and the passbook given by the postmaster was a fake passbook.

She immediately informed and lodged a complaint before higher authorities against the postmaster.

“When we have found his (Hemen Hazarika) guilty, higher authorities had suspended the postmaster with immediate effect,” an official of Assam postal circle said.

The top official of Assam postal circle further said that, higher authorities also asked Hemen Hazarika to return the amount to the woman.
