Kathmandu, Nepal: The government has dismissed National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sushil Gyewali on Thursday.
Gyewali, who was appointed by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government in December 2015 for the period of five years, has been dismissed by a cabinet decision citing the reason that the clarification submitted by him was not satisfactory.
The government on December 29 had sought an explanation from Gyewali expressing dissatisfaction with the snail-paced work of the NRA.
Responding to the clarification sought from the government, Gyenwali had wrote a letter to the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Wednesday stating that his role as the CEO of the NRA could not be labeled below satisfactory on any ground, reason and condition.
However, he had mentioned in his clarification letter that reconstruction works were being delayed primarily due to lack of cooperation from bureaucrats.
The government had raised questions over the performance of CEO Gyenwali particularly about the sluggish distribution of the first installment of housing grant to quake victims.
Likewise, the Cabinet meeting has also decided to give the martyrdom status to forest ranger Ganesh Bahadur Shahi and give Rs 1 million to his family. Forest ranger Shahi of Jajarkot district was found murdered at a forest of Khokling of Taplejung district.
