Kathmandu, Nepal, September 20, 2022:The government is preparing to expedite the process to construct the international Airport at Nijgadh of Bara district after an expert group submitted a report to the government giving a node that the proposed place is appropriate for building international airport.

The experts’ group formed under the leadership of Birendra Bahadur Deuja had handed over the study report to the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Sunday stating that Nijgadh is suitable for building an international airport to handle the growing air traffic for Nepal's far-reaching development and economic prosperity.

The experts' group was formed regarding the construction of an international airport as per a decision made by the government on August 11 in pursuant to a mandamus order of the Supreme Court.

The expert group has however suggested to the government that the airport city concept should be completely abandoned keeping in mind the Supreme Court's order to reduce tree cutting and environmental damage.

The Constitution of Nepal has given the government a constitutional obligation to make the necessary legal arrangements for proper balance between the environment and development in the work related to the country's development, states the report stating further that there are international laws and precedent principles propounded by the Supreme Court that the government can balance and manage the environment and development.

Receiving the report, Prime Minister Deuba thanked the expert group for studying and submitting the report on time adding that the construction of the airport should not be delayed.
