Kathmandu, Nepal, June 20, 2022:  Along with the rise in the prices of petroleum products, fares of public transport have also been increased by about eight percent on Monday. 

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has increased the fares for inter-provincial passenger and freight transport by 5.3 percent to 7.7 percent.

Accordingly, the DoTM, transportation fares has been increased by 5.30 percent for interprovincial public transportation, 6.94 percent for good carriers in hilly areas and 7.7 percent for good carriers in the Tarai areas.

With the increase of transportation fare, the prices of daily commodities have also drasticall increased in the market. Though the government has set the transportation fare, there is no any control mechanism to check the reckless increase of commodities price. 

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the government’s sole oil monopoly, had increased the price of petrol by Rs 21 per liter and diesel and kerosene by Rs 27 per liter from Sunday midnight. 

With the new price list, the price of petrol has now cost Rs 199 per liter and diesel and kerosene Rs 192 per liter. 

Similarly, the price of aviation fuel has reached Rs 185 per liter (domestic) and USD 1,645 per kilo liter (international). 

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the sole supplier of fuel to the NOC, had increased the price of fuel on Sunday stating that the Russia-Ukraine War has affected the international fuel market.
