Kathmandu, Nepal, August 29, 2022: Withstanding the upcoming festivals, the government is mulling the idea to lift a ban on import of a number of luxurious goods, which were banned earlier owing to the slow down effects of foreign currency reserves including mobile phones and alcohol.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) has forwarded a proposal to remove import restrictions on some goods including phones and alcohols citing the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festival.

It is said that the next cabinet meeting would take the decision to this effect. The ban was imposed on different 10 kinds of luxurious items since April 26. The government had extended the ban on July 17 till August 30.

The MoICS has proposed to lift the ban on alcohol and mobile phones after the contraband products are found in large numbers in the local market.
