Guwahati, Sep 7 : A 11-year-old boy has emerged a hero, after the little boy saved his mother and aunt, who drowned in the middle of Brahmaputra river after a country made single-engine boat, locally called as ‘bhutbhuti’ capsized in the mighty river on September 5, where three people including two college girl students were died and as many as 4 others are still missing.

Kamal Krishna Nath, a Class 6 student of St Anthony School in North Guwahati was in the boat “SB Brahmaputra” along with her mother and aunt (father’s sister) when the accident took place near Ashwaklanta Temple in North Guwahati.

The boat carrying 36 passengers plied from Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati to North Guwahati on the other side of the mighty river and capsized after hitting a concrete pillar of a water supply scheme, while it was about 200 meter away from its destination.

Risked his own life, the brave little boy had jumped thrice in the river to save three people including his mother, aunt and an unknown lady, who could not be saved.

Kamal Krishna Das said that, when the boat was capsized, all people in the boat were fell down and it was an indescribable situation, what to do.

“But I was not scared. At that time, I think that how to save all the people,” the little boy said.

“When the boat was capsized, I was not scared. I think that, how to save all the people,” he said.

When the boat was sinked, many people had jumped into the river and trying to reach a safer place.

The river was full spate and chaos all around, people lauded mid of the river.

Along with other people, the little boy had also jumped and managed to swim across to the river bank.

When he saw that, his mother and aunt were not there, he again jumped and swam back to the place where the boat was capsized.

The little boy pulled his mother, who does not know how to swim, to pillar of the water supply scheme.

He also saved his aunt, who also drowned in the river.

When the little braveheart boy saw a woman wearing burqa was struggling with her child, he jumped again and managed to pull both to a concrete pillar.

But, the child slipped from the unknown lady’s hand and swept away and the lady had also jumped into the river to save her child and both were swept away.

“We all fell down in the river after the boat was capsized. When my mother was drowning, I thought she was crying. But I never saw her, I saw her bracelet. Immediately I caught her and pulled up. The unknown lady’s child was going in the river wave. I caught her, but she told me to leave her,” Kamal said.

Describing about the incident, the little boy’s mother Jitumoni Das said that, they were sitting in the boat at around 12-55 pm and the boat was started after five minutes.

“Some boatmen from lauded, why the ill-fated boat was going. We all the people in the boat urged the boatman to go back, but he denied our appeal. All people were scared at that time. The engine of the boat was stopped when it reached mid of the river. I don’t know how to swim. But my son saved me,” Jitumoni Das said.
