Agitating Dr. KC ends 19th hunger strike after eight point agreement with the government’s talk team

Kathmandu, Nepal, October 11, 2020: Finally, the government and agitating senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC have reached an eight-point agreement on Saturday midnight.

Following the agreement, Dr KC ended his 19th hunger strike at the 28th day on Sunday. 

Coordinator of government’s talk-team Education Secretary Gopi Mainali and agitating Dr. KC signed in the deal. 

In the agreement, it is stated that some demands raised by Dr. KC will be met immediately while some in due course of time.

The government has reiterated to finalize the Higher Education Bill and Integrated Medical Science Academy Bill so as to mention a system of appointing education officials in medical institutions including the IMO.  Dr. KC has been raising a demand that appoint in the medical institutions including the IMP should be made on the basis of seniority. 

Task force of the Medical Education Commission will review the past agreements met with Dr KC to amend the Medical Education Act, states the agreement.  

Likewise, it is also agreed to operate various education program including an MBBS course in the newly established medical colleges out of Kathmandu valley. 

Medical reformist, Dr KC had begun his 19 hunger strike demanding implementation of past agreements related to the reforms in the medical sector.
