Kathmandu, Nepal, December 13, 2023: The sale, storage and consumption of tobacco products packed in plastic have been completely banned within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) area from today onwards.
The Health Department of the Metropolitan Municipality had already issued a public notice banning the sale, storage and consumption of tobacco products packed in plastic within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City area.
According to the notification the sale and distribution of tobacco products such as cigarettes, bidis, tobacco, khaini, gutkha and paan parag packed in plastic cannot be sale, stored and consumed within the Kathmandu Metropolitan City area.
The Municipal Corporation has warned that if anyone is found disobeying and selling and distributing tobacco products will be confiscated through the Metropolitan Police and will be punished to the maximum extent according to the law.
However, serious doubts have been raised in the implementation of the said decision of the Metropolitan Municipality.
As in the past, the sale and distribution of tobacco products such as cigarettes, bidis, tobacco, khaini, gutkha and paan parag could be seen in the shops located in the streets and squares of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
