Kathmandu, Nepal, February 13, 2023: Nepal received 345,600 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s bivalent Covid-19 vaccine, which also called as bivalent Covid-19 shot, from the COVAX Facility on Monday.
The received dozes vaccine jabs are part of 1.5 million doses vaccines demanded by the Ministry of Health and Population with the United Nations-backed international vaccine sharing scheme, Dr Surendra Chaurasia, chief of the Logistic Management Section at the Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services, said.
According to Chaurasia, the Pfizer-BioNTech’s is the only bivalent jab that has got for emergency use after the approval from the Drug Advisory Committee in Nepal. The bivalent Covid-19 vaccine includes a component of the original virus strain as well as a part of the Omicron variant to provide broad protection against Covid-19, he said.
It is said that the bivalent Covid-19 shot contains two components-the original virus strain and Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants and it would be referred to as an updated Covid-19 vaccine booster dose.
