Guwahati : Hima Das, a golden girl of India, who won the gold in the 400m race at the IAAF World U-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland and this is India’s first ever gold at global track event.
Hima Das scripted history after she clocked 51.46 seconds to claim top position and becoming first Indian sprinter to do so in a global track event.
A farmer daughter from a remote village Kandhulimari, about five kilometres from Dhing town in central Assam’s Nagaon run like a wind and shows her ability to beat global event.
She is not only a sensational girl in track and field, also a socially conscious teenager, who took the lead in demolishing country liquor vends in her village Kandhulimari and other nearby areas.
Two years back, while Hima Das played football in her village with boys, she also showed her social responsibility.
Hima took the lead of a women team in demolishing country liquor vends in her village and nearby areas.
Hima’s father Ranjit Das said that, when she came to know that, a family of our village selling country liquor, she took lead of women team of our village and demolishing country liquor vendor.
“On next day, a youth of the family threatened Hima and she and some other women had challenged the youth and warned him,” Ranjit Das said.
On the other hand, Hima’s friend Subhangini Neog, a resident of Dhing said that, we are proud of her.
“She is not only an athlete, she is also engaged in many social works. Once she had banned selling of wine in her native village and many women had cooperated her,” Subhangini Neog said.
