Guwahati, March 7 : An angry mob on Monday night attacked and torched a police station, vehicles in Meghalaya's North Garo Hills district, following at least three people were critically injured in a police firing incident, officials said on Tuesday. 
 
 
According to the reports, the violence erupted at Kaldang area after a police stationed at a checkpoint fired at a vehicle, when the driver of the vehicle refused to stop at the checkpoint despite signalling and trying to flee from the area. 
 
 
In the police firing incident, three persons were injured. 
 
 
Following the incident, an angry mob attacked on the police team and burnt down the Resubelpara police station, its temporary barracks and vehicles. 
 
 
A top official of Meghalaya police said that, the police team was engaged vigil at area following the intelligence input about the militants movement at the remote area. 
 
 
The injured persons had rushed to Guwahati for better treatment. 
 
 
Meanwhile, the situation is under control and security forces had deployed at the area and they were keeping a close watch. 
 
 
On March 5, a most wanted criminal of Meghalaya and Assam police, William Sangma and his three aides were made a narrow escape from a police checkpoint at Thapa Darenchi in the hilly district. 
 
 
Security personnel had recovered arms and ammunition from a vehicle, which Sangma had abandoned near a roadside field. 
 
 
ULFA (I), GNLA like militants are active in the Garo Hill districts in Meghalaya. 
 
 
In past time, the Garo hill districts witnessed several illegal crimes including kidnapping, extortions etc.
