Kathmandu, Nepal – October 14, 2025: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kul Man Ghising, has called on the Republic of Korea to enhance its investment in Nepal, particularly in the areas of green hydrogen production, fertilizer manufacturing, and public transportation systems.
During a meeting held on Monday at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar, Minister Ghising made these requests to the Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Park Tae-young. He emphasized the long-standing economic and development cooperation between Nepal and Korea and expressed Nepal's willingness to further deepen this partnership.
According to the Minister’s Secretariat, Ghising proposed the development of large-scale hydropower projects—with a capacity of over 500 MW—either through government-to-government collaboration or with investment from Korean private sector companies. He stressed the strategic importance of reservoir-based hydropower projects for maintaining energy stability within Nepal and boosting electricity exports.
In addition, Minister Ghising requested increased support for Nepal under Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS), specifically urging for a higher quota of Nepali workers, provision of skill development training prior to departure, and support for entrepreneurship programs aimed at utilizing the skills of returnee workers.
Minister Ghising also urged for the expedited finalization of Korean Export-Import (Exim) Bank assistance for the 400 kV Inaruwa–Anarmani transmission line, which will link the Arun River Corridor to Nepal's East–West Transmission Line. He further requested Korean cooperation in building Nepal’s capacity for railway construction, operation, and maintenance.
Ambassador Park congratulated Minister Ghising on his new role and conveyed best wishes on behalf of the Korean government. In response to the minister’s proposals, Ambassador Park acknowledged Korea’s ongoing support for Nepal’s energy sector and expressed a continued commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
