Agni Sapkota is being elected As Speaker Today Amid Protests From Different Sectors
  Kathmandu, Nepal      January 26 2020

Kathmandu, Nepal, January 26, 2020:  Notwithstanding the concerns raised from the national and international sector, the ruling head Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is going to elect its murder accused leader Agni Prasad Sapkota as speaker of the House of Representatives.
With no candidate from the main opposition Nepali Congress, Agni Prasad Sapkota is all but certain to become the next Speaker of the House of Representatives by Sunday.

Sapkota’s candidacy as speaker is challenged in the court accusing him of involving in the abduction and murder of Arjun Lama in 2005 in Kavre. The case is a subject of proceedings before the Supreme Court as well.

Referring to the controversies surrounded to Sapkota, the International Commission of Jurists, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and TRIAL International have not only opposed the candidacy of Sapkota for the post of speaker but also urged the ruling head NCP to reconsider Sapkota’s candidacy.
