Kathmandu, Nepal, January 19, 2020: Souring relationship between the rival factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) would take a nasty turn after Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal led faction initiated process to expel KP Sharma Oli from the party.
The Dahal- Nepal faction has on Monday sought an explanation from Oli, who is also the chairman of another faction and Prime Minister, within the next three days for defying the constitution and party rules and statute by dissolving the House of Representatives (HoR).
‘Why you should not be expelled from the party for defying party discipline,’ the letter sent to Oli has stated. It is said that the faction would terminate Oli’s general membership if he failed to respond to its letter satisfactorily.
Standing Committee member Surendra Prasad Pandey, Mukunda Neupane and a Office Secretary Shree Ram Dhakal reached at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar to hand over the letter. However, they were not allowed to enter at the official residence of the Prime Minister to handover the letter. As they were not permitted to meet Oli, the letter was dropped at the gate.
The clarification is asked at the time when other agitating parties including the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) and the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal have asked the faction to clarify whether Oli was still with the party or separated from the party.
As the Dahal-Nepal faction had proposed for a joint protest against the ‘unconstitutional’ move of the government to dissolve the parliament, such a question was raised by the opposition parties.
Standing committee meeting of the faction led by Dahal-Nepal had suspended Oli from the party chair on December 22. The same meeting had also decided to elevate senior leader Nepal as party chair replacing Oli.
Meanwhile, the faction has urged one and all for a street struggle against the ‘unconstitutional’ move of the government. Issuing joint appeal on Monday, the Chairmen duos of the faction have called all for defeating the conspiracy to end democracy by dissolving HoR.
As the ‘unconstitutional’ move taken by the Prime Minister Oli has attacked the essence and spirit of the constitution, we would like to urge all for defeating the conspiracy to end democracy, states the appeal.
