Factional War Brings Big Jolts in Ruling Head NCP

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 25, 2020: Internal rift prevailed in the ruling head Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has come into surface at again, thanks to the many debacle in the front of the party and government including the recent one party decision to amend the constitution to allow a National Assembly member to become Prime Minister.

As the party formed a three member task force with the motive to present vice- chairman Bam Dev Gautam as the Prime Minister in the behest of the party’s executive chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, another rival faction led by chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has fleshed muscles against of the move. 

Prime Minister KP Oli’s defensive measures over the misdemeanor activities of the government including the recent one implication of Gokul Baskota in the multi-million bribe scandal and poor delivery of the government has denigrated his faction. 

The constitution amendment taskforce was formed from the decision of the secretariat meeting held on Sunday. Executive Chairman Dahal had proposed to form the taskforce comprising members Madhav Kumar Nepal, Subash Nembang and Khimlal Devkota. It is said that the panel was formed under an agreement to keep it under wraps. 

As the decision to form the taskforce came into surface, the two rival factions have divided over the very existence of the task force illustrating the long-running rivalry inside the ruling head. 

It is claimed that there was a general understanding among party leaders including the chairs duo was that the amendment plan was in favor of Gautam as he has long professed his desire to become prime minister. 

Dahal led faction is working hard to nominate Gautam as upper house member to pave the way to project him as a prime minister though the constitution provision bars an upper house member from becoming prime minister. 

Dahal wants to present Gautam as the alternative candidate of the Prime Minister with the motive to bolster his strength in both the parliament and party though he was defeated in the 2017 parliament poll from Bardiya. 

It is said that Dahal has already assured Gautam to nominate him as the member of the upper house.  However, Prime Minister Oli wants to nominate again Yuba Raj Khatiwada to continue him in the post of finance minister. Upper house seat to be filled by the president’s nominee is falling vacant when the term of existing member Khatiwada expires on March 3.
