FNJ Announces Third Phase Of Protest Program Against Media Council Bill

Kathmandu, Nepal, June 6, 2019: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), the umbrella organization of the Nepalese journalist, has on Wednesday announced its third phase of protest programs against of the government demanding withdrawal of the controversial Media Council Bill registered at the Federal Parliament.

A meeting of the FNJ central committee concluded to launch third round of protest program after government did not respond its previous two rounds of protest programs.

As some provisions of the bill intended to control the press curtailing the spirit of complete press freedom guaranteed by the constitution, the bill has to be withdrawn immediately for the amendment, reads the press statement issued by the FNJ.

As per the freshly protest programs, the FNJ will run a signature campaign throughout the country on, June 18 and the collected signatures will then be submitted to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, through concerned district administration offices, on June 21.
