Govt sacks and appoints governors of Sudur Pashchim and Gandaki province

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 3, 2021: The government has sacked incumbent governors- Sharmila Tripathi of Sudur Paschchim Province and Amik Sherchan of Gandaki Province- from their posts. 

A cabinet meeting held on Monday at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar made the decision to this effect. The same meeting has also decided to appoint Sita Paudel and Ganga Prasad Yadav as the governors of Sudur Pashchim Province and Gandaki Province respectively. 

Following the recommendation of the government, President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Paudel and Yadav in the posts latter on Monday. Sacked Tripathi and Sherchan are considered close to the CPN (Maoist Center) while newly appointed governors Paudel and Yadav are considered close to the Oli-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML.

The government has made the decision to change the governors of the provinces at the time when attempts were made there to change the provincial government through the no-confidence motion. Prime Minister Oli was not happy with the role of sacked governors.
