Information Minister Announces Resignation Thorough Twitter Account

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 20: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota has announced his resignation from the Twiiter. 

Earlier it was reported that he would organize a press conference to make clear about the leaked audio recording before tendering his resignation. I have resigned on moral ground after questions rose over me, he has stated in his Twitter account.

Before tendering his resignation, he had met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli by reaching at latter’s official resident, Baluwatar.   

An audio recording of a conversation between Minister Baskota and Swiss Company local agent Bijaya Prakash Mishra that heard negotiating for Rs 700 million in bribe over the procurement of security printing press for the government leaked in different media outlets since Wednesday. 

The two minutes 31 seconds long audio recording heard that local agent Mishra tells the minister Banskota that the Swiss Embassy representatives will come to the minister's office at 12 pm on coming Monday to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the procurement of the security printing press for the government.

Likewise, the audio recording also heard that the local agent of the Swiss company assures minister Banskota that he will get the shares of the commission amount of 700 million. As per the audio available in the different media, the agent will get 30 percent share out of 700 million of commission amount while minister Banskota will get 70 percent.
