Dhangadhi, Nepal, July 30, 2020: Kanchanpur District Court has on Thursday acquitted eight police personnel including then chief of Kanchapur District Police SP Dilliraj Bista.

A single bench of Judge Gopal Prasad Bastola acquitted the police officers, who were suspended earlier on the charge of destroying evidence associated to the rape and subsequent murder case of 13 years old Nirmala Panta.

The Ministry of Home Affairs had sacked the police officers namely as Gyan Bahadur Seti, Ekindra Khadka, Jagdish Bhatta, Hari Singh Dhami, Ram Singh Dhami and Chadani Saud for destroying evidences associated with the case.

However, the investigations made after sacking of the officials had failed to identify the culprits though two years have already past.

The looming clouds of uncertainly over the rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala has yet to cleared though the government had repeatedly been making commitment for the investigation.

The dead body of Panta, who originally hails from Bhimdutta Municipality ward number 2 of Kanchanpur district, was found in a sugarcane field on July 27, 2018. She had gone missing since a day ago while returning home.
