Kathmandu, Nepal, July 7, 2020: Clearing the looming clouds of uncertainty, the main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC), has finalized the date and venue of the upcoming 14th general convention.
A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting of the NC held on Monday at party head office, Sanepa, Lalitpur, decided to hold the 14th general convention of the party from February 19 to 22 in Kathmandu.
Likewise, the meeting has also finalized the calendar to accomplish the remaining tasks related to the upcoming general convention. As per the decision, adjustment of party's local structures in line with the federal structures of the country has to be finalized by July 25.
Likewise, distribution and renewal of active membership has to be completed by September 26. The meeting has also decided to ask the party's District Working Committees to send the details of active members by September 26.
With the aim to settle any unwanted disputes over the active membership, the meeting has also decided to form a preliminary probe committee in all the districts and provinces. A central level body will also be formed to look into such complaints if the district and province level committees failed to resolve the disputes before finagling the list of the active members by mid-December.
Likewise, the CWC meeting has also made some amendments on the dates to hold the conventions in the local, district and provinces levels. As per the new decision, ward level convention will be held on December 23, provincial assembly regional general convention on December 26 and electoral constituency level or the district level convention on December 28. General convention of the party in the district that has more than one electoral constituency will be held on December 31.
