Kathmandu, Nepal, January 3, 2021: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) seems to have deviated from the previous understanding to protest the government’s ‘unconstitutional’ move to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) but not to make agendas to reinstate it.

As the dissident factions led by senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and Krishna Prasad Sitaula exerted pressure to take decision to launch protests demanding reinstate of the dissolved HoR, the establishment faction led by the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba compelled to accept the agendas to demand to reinstate the dissolved House.

The Nepali Congress has on Sunday decided to launch its second phase of protest program against the dissolution of the HoR. The NC has decided hold protest rallies and mass gatherings in all 330 provincial constituencies on January 9, in all 753 local levels on January 16, and all ward levels on January 21.

As the issue of dissolution of the HoR has already entered in the Supreme Court (SC), the apex court of the country, the establishment faction had been insisting that it would be unwise to demand to reinstate the dissolved HoR.

However, the dissident factions have a stand that there would not meaning to launch protests if the party hesitate to demand to reinstate of the HoR. Protesting the unconstitutional move to dissolve to House equals to demand to reinstate it, the dissident factions have a claim.

Considering to the concerns of the dissident factions, the NC has decided that local chapters of the party could formulate their own protest program keeping in mind the local conditions and necessities.

As the NC has already decided that the dissolution of the House was an undemocratic and unconstitutional move, local chapters of the party will set their own agendas of the protests, party’s spokesperson Bishow Prakash Sharma said.
