Nepal-Bangladesh Sign on four MoUs

Kathmandu, Nepal, March 23, 2021: Nepal and Bangladesh have signed on four bilateral Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) to enhance cooperation between the two neighboring countries in different areas, including tourism, sanitation, cultural exchange and railways link.


The MoU is signed between the two countries on tourism cooperation, sanitary and phytosanitary cooperation, cultural exchange program and letter of exchange to designate Rohanpur-Singabad railway route as an additional transit route.

During the MoU signing ceremony held at Dhaka of Bangladhes on Monday, President Bidya Devi Bhandari and her Bangladeshi counterpart Abdul Hamid were present. President Bhandari reached at Dhaka on Monday on a two-day state visit. 

Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Secretary Yadav Prasad Koirala and Bangladeshi Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Mokammel Hossain signed the MoU on tourism cooperation while secretary of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ministry Dinesh Bhattarai and Bangladeshi Agriculture Ministry's Senior Secretary Mesbaul Islam signed in the MoU on Strengthening Sanitary and Phytosanitary Cooperation.

Similarly, Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Secretary Koirala and Bangladeshi Cultural Affairs Secretary Badrul Arefin signed on the MoU on Cultural Exchange Program for the year of 2022-2025 while Industry, Commerce and Supplies Ministry’s Secretary Bhattarai and Bangladeshi Commerce Ministry Secretary Jafar Uddin signed in the MoU on Rohanpur-Sighbad Railway Route.

President Bhandari also attended the celebration program to mark the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka and delivered a statement on the theme of ‘Nepal-Bangladesh Relations and Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary.’

Bangladesh is observing a 10-day program to celebrate 100th birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur and 50th anniversary of the country's independence and liberation from March 17 to March 26.

President Bhandari also held talks with her Bangladeshi counterpart Hamid on Monday night on ranges of issues including the bilateral relationship between the two neighboring countries. During the meeting, president Bhandari was accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, Dr Bansidhar Mishra and other high-ranking officials.

Earlier, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed also paid a courtesy call on Presidet Bhandari. During the meeting matters related to the bilateral relations, mutual support and collaboration between the two countries were discussed.

Leading a 54-member delegation, President Bhandari had reached at Dhaka on Monday to attend the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation of Bangladesh.
