Nepal Government Approves Political Map Including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura

Kathmandu, Nepal, May 18, 2020: The government Nepal has endorsed a new political map including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura, the integral part of Nepal that situates at Darchula district. 

A Cabinet meeting held on Monday at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Kathmandu, took a decision to this effect for the immediate issuance purpose. It is said that the new political map will be published soon. 

The government has approved the new political map incorporating the Nepali territory, which was unilaterally kept by India on its side of the border since decades, at the time when every section of the society had been exerting pressure to the government to retrieve the encroached land through the high level discussions with the Indian authorities.  

Responding to the widespread protests launched after India unilaterally inaugurated the road constructed to join Mansarobar of China through Lipulekh pass, the Ministry for Land Reform and Management tabled the proposal before the cabinet meeting to pass the official map of Nepal. 

As India had issued a new political map incorporating not only the Limpiyadhura but also Kalapani and Lipulekh in October last year inside of its territory, there was a widespread pressure to the government to publish Nepal’s official map. The controversies came into surface at again after Indian inaugurated lately a link road constructed in the Nepali territory.
