Nepal’s Immediate Past Speaker Falls in Police Net On Rape Charge
  Kathmandu, Nepal      October 06 2019

Kathmandu, Nepal, October 6, 2019: Immediate past Speaker of the House has been arrested for his alleged involvement of raping a woman employee at the Parliament Secretariat.
A team of Nepal Police arrested Mahara from his official resident at Baluwatar in Kathmandu on Sunday evening. Mahara has made the history of a high profile figure faced the rape charge.
Earlier the district court in Kathmandu had permitted Police to arrest Mahara for further investigation over his alleged involvement of rape to a woman employee, named as Roshani Shahi.
As Shahi filed a report, First Information Report (FIR), against Mahara accusing him of raping and sexually harassing her on Friday evening last week at Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor, the way was paved to arrest police for further investigation.
As police had not initiated investigation in the pretext that no FIR was registered officially, the police as well as government and its head Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have been facing widespread criticizing for not treating the so-called high profile figure involved in the rape case.
