Nomination Today For the National Assembly Members

 Kathmandu, Nepal, January 4, 2022: Election process for the 19 National Assembly members is going to begin from today (Tuesday). The Election Commission has set the date to file the nomination for Tuesday, January 4. The elections will be held on January 26.


As four years terms of 19 National Assembly members is going to elapse on March 4, the election is being held to fulfill the vacant positions.  The newly elected National Assembly members will replace those who were elected on June 2018 for four years term.  

According to the Election Commission, the nomination of candidates for the upcoming election will be registered on Tuesday from 10 am to 3 pm. It is said that different twelve political parties are going to take part in the election.

The election Commission has said that necessary preparations for the elections including the appointment of election officials and fixation of polling stations and polling booths have already been completed.

The nominations as well as the elections will be held in all seven provinces.  A total of 2,225 voters Electoral College will exercise their electoral franchise to elect the members of the upper House.

The members of the provincial assembly, chairperson/mayor and vice-chairperson/deputy mayor of the rural municipalities and municipalities within the province are fixed as the Electoral College. 

As per the constitutional provision, each provincial assembly members’ vote has a weight of 48 whereas votes of the chairperson/mayor and vice-chairperson/deputy mayor of the rural municipalities and municipalities carry a weight of 18.

With the elections of 19 members of the upper House, one member will be nominated by the President at the recommendation of the government.
