Parliament to initiate process of electing speaker from today
  Kathmandu, Nepal      January 19 2020

Kathmandu, Nepal, January 19, 2019: After a long gap, a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for today afternoon. No meeting of the HoR was held for two months due to the differences within the ruling head Nepal Communist Party (NCP) over the issue of candidate for the post of Speaker.

With the start of the meeting, election process for the new speaker and deputy speaker of the lower house would start. The NCP had on Sunday finalized its candidate for the post of speaker. A Secretariat meeting of the NCP had forwarded the name of Agni Prasad Sapkota as the candidate for the post of Speaker.

It is said that the scheduled meeting of the HoR today would fix the election date to unveil the election calendar.

The HoR had been remaining without speaker since early October 2019 after then speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara resigned from his post after he faced the charge of sexual harassment against a female staffer of the parliament secretariat.
