Pokhrel claims the post of Chief Minister of Gandaki province with majority votes; appointment likely on Saturday

Pokhrel, Nepal, June 11, 2021: Nepali Congress’s provincial parliamentary party leader of the Gandaki province Krishna Chandra Pokhrel Nepali has claimed the post of the Chief Minister with majority votes on Friday evening.

Pokhrel claimed the post with signature of 31 lawmakers of the province.  Almost all the lawmakers including Pokhrel reached at the office of the provincial chief Sita Kumari Poudel. 

The lawmakers from the opposition alliance including Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM) and Upendra Yadav-led faction of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) have been backing Pokhrel to form a new coalition government.

Independent lawmakers Rajib Gurung, who is popularly known as the Deepak Manange has also backing Pokhrel to form a coalition government. Manange was the minister of the erstwhile government. 

Even though the post of Chief Minister is claimed with majorities of lawmakers even presenting those who have signed in the claim to appoint pokhrel as Chief Minister, Provincial chief Poudel has said that she would take decision by Saturday by investigating over the claim and verifying the signatures of the lawmakers.
