Kathmandu, Nepal, September 16, 2019: Nine journalists have been arrested by a team of Nepal police from Singh Durbar, Central Secretariat of the Nepal government, on Monday.
The arrested and subsequently release journalist include Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Ram Prasad Dahal, FNJ Central Committee Members Yam Birahi, Janmadev Jaisi, Min Bom, FNJ Doti chapter president Yogendra Balayar, Nepal Press Union (NPU) General Secretary Ajayababu Siwakoti and journalists trio Chakra Kunwar, Dilip Poudel and Prakash Bam.
Police have arrested them while they protested at the promises of the Redio Nepal at Singh durbar demanding the reinstatement of journalists affiliated with Radio Nepal. The management of the Redio Nepal had sacked two journalists- Prakash Bam and Chakra Kunwar affiliated with Radio Nepal Regional Broadcasting Centre, Dipayal.
It is amazing that the journalists duo affiliated to the Redio Nepal were sacked after they had protested demanding the implementation of minimum wages as provisioned for journalists.
It is astonishing that the state owned Redio Nepal has failed to implement the legal provision of minimum wages for the working journalists. The incumbent government has brought the mandatory provision to implement the provision of minimum wages.
