Kathmandu, Nepal, January 11, 2022: The ruling CPN (Unified Socialist) party has condemned the remarks of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the Indian government is expanding the road to the Lipulekh area.
Issuing a press statement on Monday, Chief of International Department of CPN (Unified Socialist) Jhala Nath Khanal protested the recent statement of the Indian Prime Minister Modi. Indian Prime Minister Modi had made a public statement that his government is in the process of widening the road built in Lipulekh area.
‘Our serious attention has been drawn to the recent statement of Indian Prime Minister Modi that the road is being illegally built and expanded in the Nepali territory of Lipulekh, Khanal has stated in the statement.
Since the Indian government knows well that the area of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura are the sovereign territories of Nepal, any development activity conducted in the area is violation of territorial integrity and national sovereignty, reads the statement.
Neighboring countries- Nepal and India have some border disputes in many areas including in the Lipulekh area of Darchula district. It is believed that the disputed area is Nepali territory though it currently falls under Indian control. Even though the land is incorporated in the official map of Nepal, no diplomatic as well as political initiation is made yet to settle the issue through the discussions.
Our party strongly condemns the ongoing road construction violating Nepal’s territorial integrity and provocative statements made by the Indian leaders, Khanal, who is also the Former Prime Minister, has stated in the statement. In the statement, he has also requested the Nepal government to take necessary measures to protect the Nepali territory on the border.
