Upper House Passes Media Council Bill

Kathmandu, Nepal, February 6, 2020: Media Council Bill, 2076 has been passed unanimously from the Upper House of the Federal Parliament on Thursday by scarping the controversial provisions forwarded earlier by the government like qualification-test for journalists to obtain licenses and excessive punishment for the journalists.

The controversial provisions were scarped after widespread protests from different sectors.  Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota had presented the proposal afore the National Assembly to pass the bill by removing the controversial provisions.
