Guwahati, Sep 4 : The Indian Navy’s deep-sea divers, Indian army, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are engaged in ongoing search and rescue operation for five members of a family, who went missing after their Swift Dzire car plunged into Dikhow river in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district on September 1 evening.

According to the reports, a 8-member diving team with equipments from the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam had reached in Sivasagar town to help in the ongoing operation.

Apart from the Indian Navy’s diver team, Indian army, SDRF and NDRF teams are also engaged in search operations.

But, the search operations failed to locate the car.

Five members of a family went missing after a Swift Dzire car where they were travelled plunged into Dikhow river on Saturday evening.

The incident took place at Dikhowmukh area near Gaurisagar in the upper Assam’s district when the family was travelling from Guwahati to Sivasagar and their speeding car lost its control and fell into Dikhow river.

The five members of the family are – Haren Bora, his mother Phunu Bora, wife Ponou Bora and two daughters Simpi Bora and Munmi Bora.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is supervising the rescue operation and has spoken to the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the search and rescue operation of the
missing family.

The Assam CM has also taken up the matter with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Defence Ministry for help from the Indian Navy.

The state government is taking all possible steps to recover the vehicle and the missing persons.

Meanwhile, two boats of Inland Water Transport (IWT) have been kept as
standby.

Though the search and rescue operation has started form Sunday morning, the search teams are yet to strike success because of the strong undercurrent in Dikhow River which is on a spate with muddy water blocking vision under water.

Divers are going as deep as 40 ft in some areas and a total number of 10 boats have been pressed into service.

Three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), six teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), one each from Dibrugarh and Sivasagar and two teams each from Jorhat and Golaghat have been pressed into the search and rescue operation, apart from one team from the Para Commando of the Indian Army.

A total of 32 deep divers are engaged into rescue operation and these divers include eight from the NDRF, four each from Dibrugarh and Jorhat SDRF, three each from Sivasagar and Golaghat SDRF and 10 divers from the Para Commando of the Indian Army.

A total of 100 rescue personnel are engaged in the search and rescue operation including 44 from NDRF, seven from Dibrugarh SDRF, 12 from Sivasagar SDRF, 10 from Jorhat SDRF, eight from Golaghat SDRF, 14 personnel from the Para Commando  and five from Civil Defence.
